Oct. 22, 2010— -- Netflix suffered a major outage Thursday. The company's website went down, preventing subscribers from streaming movies and TV shows for several hours. The outage is particularly embarrassing since it comes a day after the company predicted subscribers will soon be spending more time watching video on the Internet than on DVD's.

The first Google TV products hit stores this month. The televisions and set-top boxes merge watching TV with surfing the web. USA Today's Ed Baig says the technology shows promise, but still needs some work.

"Google TV doesn't quite go far enough. For one thing, I want an app store. It's coming, it's promised in 2011. I think they'll really benefit from that," said Baig. "Navigation has to improve. There's decent search as you would expect with Google, but navigation has to improve. And the third thing is for now, the only DVR you can control through Google TV is if you have a Dish Network satellite subscription."
