— -- It wasn't so long ago that a Blu-ray Disc player was a hefty hunk of metal that required a sizable footprint. Not anymore. Samsung's latest Blu-ray Disc players emphasize clean design and slim lines.

The Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-ray player has several new features not found in last year's models, such as 1GB of internal flash memory for BD-Live content, support for 802.11 b/g/n wireless, and two USB 2.0 ports for multimedia use and memory expansion, one in back and one at the rear. The player also can stream Netflix video and Pandora music for subscribers of these services. And it has a full range of audio support: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio.

The BD-P3600 has a slim and clean design, with its playback controls located on the top of the unit. This keeps the front face clean, but it will likely make the buttons harder to access.

The Samsung BDP-4600 is a unique, wall-mountable Blu-ray Disc player. Immediately, you'll notice this player's design: It's super-thin--just 1.5-inches thick--with rounded edges and the same Touch of Color (red) design accents found on the company's Touch of Color series of televisions. This svelte player achieves its thin profile in part from its use of a slot loading drive.

Amazingly, like the BD-P3600, this model supports BD-Live with 1GB of flash memory, 802.11b/g/n wireless via a USB dongle, multimedia playback via USB, and on-board decoding of Dobly Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Both of these models are due in the first half of 2009. Pricing was not announced.
