— -- For as long as Linux has existed, PC World editors have watched closely as the open source OS has grown and evolved from a student project at the University of Helsinki into a powerful operating system available in myriad distributions all around the world. And now we're proud to launch this blog dedicated entirely to Linux and the world of open source software.

This blog has been a long time coming. Readers have demanded it, our editors are passionate about, and a few of our writers have been clamoring for a chance to help create it. LinuxLink will be a growing repository of news, advice, tutorials, and tips about all flavors of Linux as well as other open source OSes such as the free BSD distributions and other *nix variants.

LinuxLink is a blog for Linux geeks, by Linux geeks. We are proud to feature the work of award-winning author Keir Thomas, who has written and published several excellent books on various Linux distributions, including Ubuntu Kung Fu, Beginning Ubuntu Linux, Beginning SUSE Linux, Beginning Fedora, and the new hit Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference. In the coming weeks, LinuxLink will expand its line-up of contributors to include other notable experts on the subject.

In addition to our bench of in-house contributors, we want to extend the spirit of openness to the content of this blog. We invite you, the readers, to contribute to LinuxLink not only by the generous contribution of your comments but also by sending us your news tips and helpful hints for getting more out of Linux and open source software. See a gap in our coverage? Let us know. Want to write a tip? Send it in. Due to the volume of correspondence we receive, we can't guarantee that every contribution will be accepted and published, but we will make every effort to give exposure to helpful submissions. For the time being, you can send your tips and submissions directly to me at robert_strohmeyer@pcworld.com. Please include the words "LinuxLink Tip" in the subject line of your e-mail.

As someone who has used and written about Linux since shortly after its creation in the early nineties, I'm personally very excited to be launching LinuxLink today, and I hope you'll join us often as we explore and celebrate the massive and ever-growing world of open source. Thank you for being a part of this blog. We're looking forward to working with you.
