Amazon's Drone Delivery Idea Launches Funny Tweets
Amazon said it hopes drones will deliver packages by 2015. The Internet laughed.
Dec. 2, 2013— -- Moments after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced his plans for drone delivery of Amazon packages Internet denizens did what they do best: they mocked it.
Bezos told CBS News' "60 Minutes" in a story that aired Sunday that he planned to introduce Amazon Prime Air by 2015, allowing for unmanned aerial drones to pick packages off the factory lines and fly them directly to a consumer's home in 30 minutes.
While the show was still airing, the Twitter account @AmazonDrone launched its first Tweet.
The rest of Twitter soon joined in the fun, with user @QuantumPirate quickly mocking up a fake missed delivery notice from the drone.
Of course, Bezos admitted that the plan still needs approval by the Federal Aviation Administration, but he hopes to have that accomplished by 2015, he said.
"I know this looks like science fiction -- it's not," Bezos told CBS. "It will work and it will happen. It's going to be a lot of fun."
