Jury gets music downloading case in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS -- A federal jury in Minneapolis is considering whether a Minnesota woman is responsible for sharing music over the Internet.

Jammie (JAY'-mee) Thomas-Rasset is so far the only file-sharing defendant to go to trial.

The jurors got the case about 11 a.m. Thursday.

The judge instructed the jurors that in order to find Thomas-Rasset responsible, they must determine that people actually downloaded songs. Simply making songs available on the Kazaa file-sharing network isn't enough.

The two sides are at odds over what the evidence shows.

In closing arguments, recording industry attorney Tim Reynolds claims the "weight of the evidence" shows Thomas-Rasset behind the file-sharing that took place on her computer.

But defense attorney Joe Sibley says the music companies could only link the computer to file-sharing — not her personally.
