•"A car charger and cellphone; it's been really glitchy lately," says Aly Pascuzzi, shopping at Mall of America in Minneapolis. "I have a Droid but want an iPhone with longer battery life. I have to charge my phone three times a day."

•Kris Stewart of Springfield, Mo., wants a Galaxy Nexus phone, with the latest Google Android software, which is expected in stores by the end of the year. "I am excited about a phone with an HD screen, (faster) 4G (service) and NFC (near-field communication) to use my phone for payments at retailers," Stewart writes.

Laptops/tablets

•"An Asus netbook," says Mall of America shopper Dane Kartak. "It's small and light and way better than the iPad."

•"A new laptop for college would be awesome," says Emma Thompson, also at the mall. "Any laptop would do."

•"The iPad 2," says Randy Sandhofer of Minneapolis. "For the new features." He has no interest in the Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet, because, "I'm not a big reader. It's all about the apps."

In Atlanta, Rick Atkins wants the iPad because he already has the iPhone and MacBook Pro. "Once I get the iPad, I'm complete." Stacy Doran, also in Atlanta, wants the iPad 2 because "it's a bigger iPhone. And we're just crazy for the iPhone."

Camera

•The Contour HD, a wearable video camera, is high on the list for Jason Huff of Raleigh, N.C. He wants it for "its compact size and one-button ease of use. I'm an adrenaline junkie, and on any given weekend, you may find me on the bike trails or surfing some tarmac either two or four wheels down."

Gaming

•Get Emily Muckler the Xbox 360 videogame system from Microsoft. "I love gaming," says Muckler, shopping in Minneapolis. In Atlanta, Morgan Campbell says she wants the Xbox, as well. "We have a (Nintendo) Wii, so we're looking for something new."

•Tim Lindell of Minneapolis wants the iPod Touch with 8 gigabytes of memory. What he wants to do: "play games on it."

The holiday spirit

•Bob O'Leary at the Mall of America, says he doesn't want any gifts. "I would buy something for somebody else," he says. "Maybe a nice laptop for my brother."

•"I'm just thankful for a job," says Steve Carter of Atlanta. "It's the perfect gift for me."
