TechBytes: iPhone DUI Apps Banned

Apps warn drivers of drunk driving checkpoints.

June 10, 2011 — -- In today's TechBytes, Apple is pulled over on DUI apps. Under pressure from senators, the company is banning iPhone applications that warn drivers of the locations of unannounced drunk driving checkpoints. Some of the apps are still available. Apple usually gives developers a few days to make changes.

HP Touchpad

Hewlett Packard is entering the ever-growing tablet market. The HP Touchpad will run the webOS operating system and will have a 9.7- inch screen and a front-facing camera. The Wi-Fi version of the device will hit stores July 1 and retail for about $500.

Pepsi's Next Generation Vending Machine

Social networking might be coming soon to a vending machine near you. Pepsi's social vending machines would allow you to send a beverage to a friend simply by entering the person's name and phone number. And you could also record a short video message. The machines are still in the testing stage.
