— -- Question: I just got a new iPad 2. How can I transfer all my information over from my old iPad?

Answer: Start by plugging your old iPad into your computer. iTunes should open and start an automatic backup. If that doesn't happen, right-click (or CMD+click) your iPad in the iTunes left sidebar and select Back Up. Once the backup is complete, unplug the old iPad and plug in the iPad 2. iTunes will give you two options. Choose Restore From Backup Of and select iPad. iTunes will transfer all your iPad's settings and data to the new iPad 2. At this point, you'll need to wait. iTunes does give you a progress bar, however it may seem to stop for long periods of time. That's normal; just wait as long as it takes for the process to finish. Once the backup is restored, the iPad 2 will restart. After it reboots, iTunes will start syncing your movies, music and apps. Again, you'll want to wait until this is done. Once the process completes, however, your new iPad should be just like your old iPad, only newer and faster.

Q: I'm in the market for a new gaming monitor. My old CRT just died and I'm not sure an LCD screen will be up to fast-paced games. What do you think?

A: In the past, LCDs screens did have trouble updating quickly enough for fast games. You'd get ghosting and stuttering. Newer LCD monitors, however, work just fine. Just make sure the response time is listed as 1ms or 2ms gray-to-gray. For response times listed as black-to-white-to-black or on-off, 5ms and 8ms are acceptable numbers. Q: I just got a new 42-inch HDTV and can't decide how far away I should sit. Do you have any recommendation?

A: Viewing distance is important for getting the best image quality. Too close and you can see individual screen pixels; too far and you start missing detail. One good formula for seating distance is multiplying the screen size by 2, and then by 3. The lower number is the minimum distance you should be away from the screen; the higher number is the maximum. For a 42-inch screen, you should sit between 7 and 10 feet away.

Q: You always say that I need to keep Windows updated. How can I make sure all the important updates are installing? I have Windows 7.

A: In Windows 7, go to Start>>Control Panel and click the Windows Updates icon. This will show you at a glance if important updates are available. If you find any, you can install them right away. You can also look through the optional updates. These are less important updates that may or may not apply to your system. For the greatest convenience, you'll want to set your system to automatically update. For that, click the Change settings link on the left. Under Important Updates, set it to Install updates automatically. Then set a time when the computer is on but you aren't using it. That's all there is to it.

Q: I just got a new computer. It has a lot more drive letters than my last computer. I have C, D, E, F, G and H. What are all these?
