June 26, 2008— -- Vermont State Police are searching for a 12-year-old girl last seen Wednesday morning when a family member dropped her off at a convenient store to meet a friend.

Brooke Bennett was left at a Cumberland Farms store in Randolph, Vt., at 9 a.m., according to the state police. She had said that she was meeting a friend to visit the friend's sick relative at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center across the state line in Lebanon, N.H. The girl never showed up at the hospital and has not been seen since.

Brooke's father, James Bennett, of Bethel, Vt., told The Associated Press that he had not seen his daughter in two weeks and that she lives with her mother. His daughter just finished the 7th grade at Randolph Union High School's junior high, the girl's father said.

Authorities recovered some items that may be connected to the girl's disappearance in Brookfield, Vt., a town about 10 miles north of Randolph. The items prompted state police and New England K-9 teams to join the state police search and rescue team in a search of the area.

Bennett was last seen wearing blue jeans, a pink sweater and white sneakers. She is described as 4 fett, 11 inches tall and weighes approximately 100 pounds.
