Celebrity chef Rachael Ray is cooking for a cause. She is urging everyone to participate in Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale, which benefits hungry children. She is also tackling childhood hunger through her new foundation Yum-o! The foundation focuses on feeding hungry kids and teaching families how to make affordable, healthy meals so they can develop healthier relationships with food.
Rachael Ray: We can all relate to being hungry in our lives for something, whether you're hungry for money or attention, or hungry for a boyfriend, a love life -- whatever. Imagine what it's really like to go hungry. And then imagine what that must be like for a small child, how that must make him feel -- completely lesser than in every way. They're not good enough to get food.
Ray in a public service announcement: On any given day in America, over 12 million children face childhood hunger, but helping them can be a piece of cake.
Ray: Summertime is bake sale time. Lots of schools have fundraisers. Kids put up their lemonade stand and they have bake sales on the corner or in their cul de sac and in their community. And it's a very simple concept. When you go to Greatamericanbakesale.org, you can read all about it. It invites individuals of any age to throw a bake sale, starting this weekend throughout the summer to raise money to help these hungry kids in their community.
