24 Taken to Hospitals in Good Condition After CTA Derailment

After 4-car train derails on elevated track, 24 victims are in "good condition."

CHICAGO May 28, 2008 (AP)— -- A four-car Chicago Transit Authority train has derailed on an elevated track on the city's South Side, sending at least 24 people to hospitals.

The Chicago Fire Department says all 24 people will be transported in good condition.

The first two cars of the train are off the tracks at a junction between two lines, but remain upright on the elevated structure.

A CTA spokeswoman says the train derailed about 10:10 a.m. on the Green Line that runs to the South Side from downtown.

A customer alert posted on the CTA's Web site says service hasbeen temporarily suspended on the line and shuttle buses are inplace to assist customers.
