SACRAMENTO -- A plane was forced to abort takeoff Tuesday from Sacramento International Airport after two tires blew out.

The left main tires blew as Southwest flight 2287 departed at about 6:15 p.m. PT for Seattle, said Laurie Slothower, Sacramento International Airport spokeswoman. Five crewmembers and 130 passengers were on board.

The pilot quickly aborted the takeoff and emergency crews were called in to hose down the 737 as a precautionary measure, Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Katie McDonald said. They later set up a portable stairway to let the passengers off the plane.

"There was no fire, there were no injuries," Slothower said. "The passengers were safely evacuated from the plane using the stairs as they would on a routine flight."

Another Sacramento International Airport spokeswoman, Karen Doron, said the passengers were bused to a terminal and boarded another flight to Seattle at 8:45 p.m., which arrived around 10:40 p.m.

One runway has been closed because of the emergency, but outbound and inbound flights are not affected. Officials have not determined what caused the blowout, though initial reports indicated the plane previously made a hard landing, and the incident is being investigated.
