— -- Northern California's Angel Island State Park, accessible only by ferry or private boat and home to some of the San Francisco area's most spectacular views, is offering guided, themed Segway tours for the first time this spring and summer.

This month's excursions spotlight such island flora as California lilac and coastal live oak, while later trips will concentrate on military history (the island has forts dating from the Civil War to Cold War) and the five Bay Area bridges visible from the top of 788 foot-high Mt. Livermore. Cost of the two- to three-hour tours is $70 per person, including a $5 park donation.

For those who'd rather explore under their own power, Angel Island offers bike rentals and 13 miles of hiking trails and roadways.
