California Motorcyclist Taunts Police Officers During High-Speed Chase
The motorcyclist topped speeds of 100 mph.
— -- A high-speed police chase turned into a motorcycle stunt show on the streets of a Southern California city Wednesday night.
The chase began around 6 p.m. in La Habra, California, after authorities attempted to stop the motorcyclist for reckless driving, according to ABC station KABC. The driver stopped briefly before continuing again, driving at speeds topping 100 mph.
The suspect, later identified by authorities as 22-year-old Phillip Resendez, stood on top of his seat and weaved in and out of traffic as California Highway Patrol officers followed in pursuit. At some points, as caught on camera, Resendez appeared to be making obscene gestures at the officers.
The chase ended around 7 p.m., when Resendez pulled into a gas station and surrendered to police.
“I just want to say I love my two baby girls,” Resendez said as he was taken away in custody, according to local news station KCAL. “I am so sorry I disappointed them.”
Resendez was booked on charges of driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to yield, according to authorities.
