— -- Following a tragic night of violence in Dallas, a sweet scene of support has emerged outside the headquarters of the Dallas Police Department and Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

Community members have coming by the area to place bouquets of flowers on top of two police cars and to offer their condolences to the departments who lost five police officers to an ambush-style attack overnight.

"We're hurting. Our profession is hurting. Dallas officers are hurting. We are heartbroken," Dallas Police Chief David Brown said at a news conference this morning. "There are no words to describe the atrocity that occurred to our city."

An "incredible turnout came in support" of the city's police during a prayer service at the city's Thanksgiving Square, Dallas PD tweeted this morning.

The department added, "Thank you to the members of our community for your show of support during this difficult time."
