— -- A Lufthansa pilot reported that a drone flew dangerously close to a plane as it was landing at LAX airport Friday, according to the Federal Aviation Authority.

The pilot reported that Lufthansa Flight 456 was at an altitude of 5,000 feet when a drone flew approximately 200 feet overhead as the plane approached LAX Runway 24, the FAA said. Following the crew's report, the FAA immediately notified the Los Angeles Police Department's Air Support Division, it said.

Representatives for LAX said they weren't aware of the drone. Lufthansa did not immediately return ABC News' request for comment.
