— -- Even as protests against police brutality rage across the nation, Eric Garner's stepfather is trying to keep the peace.

Benjamin Carr was seen calming down an angry protester who was screaming out of a car window today in Staten Island, New York, after the announcement that the NYPD officer who killed Garner won't face any criminal charges in New York.

But Carr kept calm, and Garner's family has only urged peaceful demonstration.

The moving moment was in stark contrast to a scene from last week in Ferguson, Missouri, when the stepfather of Michael Brown, another black man killed by a white police officer, was videotaped screaming during a riot.
