2 People Hurt at California Roller Coaster

A park worker reportedly tried to retrieve a cellphone when he was injured.

— -- Two people were injured Friday on the Flight Deck roller coaster at Great America in Santa Clara, California.

ABC station KGO-TV in San Francisco reports that a park maintenance worker was injured when he struck in the head by a rider around 8:15 p.m. local time.

Witnesses told KGO-TV that the maintenance worker was retrieving a cell phone that fell near the ride platform and was dragged 10-15 feet.

Both the worker and the rider were taken to a hospital. The worker reportedly suffered traumatic injuries, while the rider's hand was hurt.

The roller coaster has been closed, pending an investigation, according to authorities. They also added that there was no indication that there was a mechanical problem with the ride.
