Princeton University Evacuated for Bomb Threat, Suspicious Package
The school told employees and students to evacuate campus immediately.
June 11, 2013— -- Princeton University was evacuated today after a bomb threat was called into the school and a suspicious package was found on campus.
The phone threat was made to the university around 9 a.m. and threatened multiple, unspecified buildings on campus, according to university spokesman Martin Mbugua.
After students and staff were evacuated from the prestigious campus, authorities then found a suspicious package on campus and are working to determine if it is an explosive device, a law enforcement official told ABC News.
Police are now inspecting buildings with bomb-sniffing dogs as they sweep the campus in light of the threats, according to a statement posted on the university's website. They said the search could take several hours.
The university had already finished its spring term and had its commencement ceremony earlier this month, but students and staff members that were on campus received an e-mail alert telling them to evacuate immediately.
"This is NOT a test. There has been a bomb threat to multiple unspecified campus buildings. Please evacuate the campus and all University offices immediately and go home unless otherwise directed by your supervisor," the alert read.
"The University takes all threats to the safety and well being of our community members and visitors seriously and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation," the university's statement said.
