Six Found Dead in South; Suspect Held

Five bodies found in two southern Tenn. homes, one in northern Ala., AP reports.

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn., July 18, 2009 — -- A sheriff says a suspect is being held in the slayings of five people found dead in southern Tennessee and a sixth person in Huntsville, Ala.

Lincoln County, Tenn., Sheriff Murray Blackwelder said at a newsconference Saturday that his department is investigating threecrime scenes, though he did not elaborate. He did not release thevictims' names or that of the suspect and would not confirm thecauses of death.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm saysthat the five killed in Tennessee were found in two homes and thatsome of the victims were related.

She says the killings happened Friday night or early Saturday.

Fayetteville is a town of 7,000 people about 90 miles south ofNashville near the Tennessee-Alabama border. Huntsville is about 20miles south.
