Agency Recalls 600,000 Fire Extinguishers
Sept. 27 -- Fearing that 600,000 fire extinguishers now on the market could fail when the trigger is pulled, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall today of First Alert brand extinguishers sold throughout the country.
CPSC and the manufacturer BRK Brands have received five reports from consumers that the extinguishers didn’t work.
“Because we take safety very seriously, we immediately got in touch with the CSPC to launch an investigation,” said BRK Brands spokeswoman Rockie Rockingham.
Rockingham said consumers would receive a replacement extinguisher.
The recall involves First Alert’s model number FE1A1G. Only fire extinguishers with serial numbers beginning with RH, RK, RL or RP are involved in the recall.
The serial number can be found above the model number in arectangular box.
