— -- A man managed to gain unauthorized access to the tarmac at one of Europe's busiest airports in an effort to catch his Ryanair flight after he apparently missed his boarding call, Madrid airport police told ABC News.

The incident occurred on the evening of Aug. 5, when the unidentified man passed initial security checks at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport, but evaded the final boarding point, according to the police spokesperson. He is seen on video climbing his way from a jet bridge down to the tarmac.

Once on the tarmac, the man, two bags in hand, first appears to attempt to open the door of a small vehicle that drives away.

He subsequently is seen running across the tarmac for several seconds before he is eventually intercepted by two people.

The police spokesperson said he had a boarding pass for the flight, but he was not allowed to board following his attempt to chase the plane down.

He was later booked on and boarded another flight before being arrested in Gran Canaria.

According to police, he was forced to pay an undisclosed fine and was released.

Ryanair declined to comment on the incident, citing it as a matter for Madrid airport police.
