Watch FedEx Ship Millions of Packages This Holiday Season
FedEx plans to ship 317 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
— -- FedEx is helping Santa Claus ship a record number of packages this holiday season. The company predicts it will ship 317 million items between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“FedEx expects to see a record number of shipments move through our global network between Black Friday and Christmas Eve,” FedEx CEO Frederick W. Smith said in a statement. “The shift in consumer shopping patterns, fueled by the rise of e-commerce, continues to drive our volume."
But there have been delays this year. The surge of online shopping during Cyber Monday led to some delays in delivering packages to customers.
FedEx spokeswoman Sharon Young noted that changing online shopping patterns are impacting its business and causing "volume surges earlier than ever before."
"Our networks are performing as designed, and we are working to absorb the extra volumes," Young said while discussing Cyber Monday delays.
