Nov. 23, 2010— -- Pope Benedict's landmark decision to condone condom use in some instances has sparked global conversation.

In an interview with a German journalist, the pope said that condoms should be used to prevent HIV transmission, singling out male prostitutes.

It's the "first step on the way to another, more humane sexuality," the pope said.

The Vatican has clarified the pope's comments from what he said in a new book, "Light of the World: The Pope, the Church and the Sign of the Times," announcing that the pope's thinking applied not only to male prostitutes but also to females and transexuals too.

"The problem is this: It's the first step fo taking responsibility, of taking into consideration the risk of life of another with whom you have a relationship," Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, told reporters.

The Roman Catholic Church's stance on condoms has been widely criticized in the past, with some arguing that hard-line opposition to condoms has only added to the spread of AIDS in such places as Africa.

Our question to you today: What's your reaction to the pope's comments on condoms?
