Dec. 22, 2009— -- For U.S. troops serving in Iraq, it is now a punishable offense to be pregnant. Maj. Gen. Anthony Cucolo III, a military commander in northern Iraq, issued a general order back in November that punishes female soldiers who become pregnant, as well as male soldiers who impregnate them.

Cucolo tells ABC News the policy is intended to avoid losing troops. "I need every soldier I've got," he said. He describes pregnancy as a personal choice that negatively affects other troops on the ground.

Military experts say the general is within his rights, but that hasn't held back strong opinions on the policy. So we pose the question to you today: Should troops serving in Iraq be punished for pregnancy?
