'Veronica Mars' revival: What to expect from the new episodes
For those who haven't binged yet, here's what you're missing.
Minor spoilers ahead.
"Veronica Mars" debuted its highly-anticipated fourth season on Hulu Friday – a week earlier than expected, but a welcome surprise for die hard Marshmallows.
If you haven’t binged all eight episodes yet, here’s what you can expect.
1. There’s a new mystery in town
The new season picks up 12 years after the events of the season three finale and five years after the "Veronica Mars" movie. Mars Investigations -- Veronica (Kristen Bell) and her dad Keith (Enrico Colantoni) -- are enlisted to help solve a series of deadly bombings in their coastal town of Neptune, California, during Spring Break.
2. Old familiar faces return
A long time ago we used to be friends… We already know the core favorites are back – including Wallace, Weevil and Dick Casablancas -- but the show also has some fun surprises for OG fans. Not only are there references to season one’s Lily Kane murder and season two’s bus crash, we also get cameos from some pivotal characters from seasons past.
3. New faces in Neptune
Expect some new characters to shake things up, including Patton Oswalt as a pizza delivery man obsessed with true crime, J.K. Simmons as an ex-con who might be involved in some shady real estate dealings in Neptune and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as a feisty bar owner who strikes up a friendship with Veronica. There’s also Matty Ross, played by Izabela Vidovic, who may just be Veronica’s new P.I. protégé.
4. Veronica is a cussin’ grown up!
Veronica Mars is more mature this time around: there’s cursing, steamy love scenes and drug use. But Hulu wouldn’t allow the show to drop any f-bombs, so much like Kristen Bell’s other show "The Good Place," they found a clever way around it.
5. LoVe is in the air
The show’s beloved couple Veronica and Logan (LoVe, as the fans call them) are still together when the new season picks up. If you’ll remember, the "Veronica Mars" movie ended with them rekindling their teenage romance. As Logan (Jason Dohring) once famously said, their story is "epic.” But does that mean they'll have a happy ending? You'll just have to watch.
