July 25, 2013 — -- Young immigrants face many challenges that their peers don't.
This reality prompted Lauren Burke, a young immigration attorney, to start a center in Brooklyn focused on empowering young immigrants. The center, Atlas: Developing Immigrant Youth, officially opened earlier this month and already has represented more than 65 immigrants in their legal cases.
The center aims to serve undocumented youth and their allies, by offering legal consulation, ESL classes, tutoring, support groups, art work shops, and free college guidance.
For undocumented youth like Milton Trujillo and Isabel Mendoza, the center has had a great impact on their lives. Watch the above video to hear them tell their stories.
