What Zombies and Politicians Have in Common
You've all seen Joss Whedon's "Zomney" video by now. But how off was he really?
Nov. 2, 2012— -- When director Joss Whedon released a hilarious satirical video "endorsing" Mitt Romney for putting the country back on track toward a zombie apocalypse, he wasn't that far off. In fact, we'd argue zombies and politicians have a few other things in common. Here are four:
1. People Like to Dress Up as Them
They're both so popular that they made two of the best-selling Halloween costumes this year. Which costume would you be more scared of running into in an alley Halloween night?
2. They Both Do Pretty Well With Books
Both zombies and politicians have spent a lot of time on bestseller lists.If you've walked into a bookstore in the last few years then you've definitely seen the cover for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. There's also The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, which came out in 2003 and is still a bestseller, along with Brooks' newer novel World War Z.
As for politician's, Barack Obama takes the cake as the pol whose books have sold the most copies (4.7 million copies). Jimmy Carter's wise words sold more than two million copies. Bill Clinton's books sold more than 1.8 million copies and Hillary Clinton's sold a little under Billy's at 1.5 million copies. Who would have thought it would take these two groups to get America reading again.
3. Their Appearance Changes When They Turn
When you become a zombie, your skin isn't quite as firm as it used to be. Similarly, when you are elected to office, um, let's just say it ages you. It also turns quite a few pols --Ahem, Romney at Univision's forum-- funny colors.
4. They Live Forever -- At Least It Feels That Way
You've seen it play out in scary movies, and in Newt Gingrich's career. Every time you think you've gotten rid of them, they find a way to come back.
