— -- "Jurassic World" has become the movie to reach $1 billion the fastest at the global box office, beating some already-staggering numbers from Hollywood heavy-hitters.

"We are pleased to announce that Jurassic World will cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office today after 13 days—faster than any film in history," Universal Pictures said in a statement on Monday.

The record was previously held by Universal Pictures' "Furious 7," which reached the mark in 17 days earlier this year. Before that, it was "Avatar," which reached the mark in 19 days.

After its second weekend in theaters, "Jurassic World," starring Chris Pratt, earned $106.6 million in the U.S. alone, bringing its domestic total to $402.8 million, Universal Pictures said on Monday.

Globally, "Jurassic World" is expected to cross the $1 billion mark today after grossing more than $981 million by the end of the weekend.

Those figures make this Pixar's second largest opening weekend behind "Toy Story 3," which earned $110.3 million in 2010. The Walt Disney Company owns ABC News, Pixar and Marvel.
