Ashton Kutcher Surprises His Mother With Renovated Childhood Home
Kutcher fixed up his childhood home as a way to say "Thank you."
— -- Ashton Kutcher decided to do something extra special and meaningful for his mother, Diane.
Kutcher, 37, was part of a documentary for an online design site, Houzz, and went back to his childhood home in Homestead, Iowa, to remodel him mom's place.
"I think everybody has a place in their life that they call home that sort of has that feeling of home," he says in a clip from the documentary. "The renovation we are going to be doing is on a place that I call home."
Kutcher explains that he and his stepfather, Mark Portwood, built the home when he was just 13. His goal is to grow the space, especially the basement, to fit for the next generation of his family.
Kutcher is invested in Houzz and he uses the site's technology to redesign the basement while he's in California and the home is in Iowa. His stepfather helps in the process.
"We are tearing the entire house apart," he says. "It's my way of saying 'thank you' to my mom. My mom has been the greatest influence in my life."
In the end, Kutcher shows his mother the home and she can't help but break down in tears.
"Mom, we don't have to cry in every room," Kutcher jokes.
"This is amazing," she says. "I don't know how they did it!"
