'Dancing With the Stars' Winner Alfonso Ribeiro to be 'America's Funniest Home Videos' Host
He takes over for 'DWTS' host Tom Bergeron.
— -- Talk about keeping it in the family.
"America’s Funniest Home Videos" has chosen its new host and it's "Dancing With the Stars" champ Alfonso Ribeiro. He'll take over next season for 'DWTS' host Tom Beregron.
Ribeiro, 43, will begin as host in the fall, according to Entertainment Weekly. Beregron hosted the show for more than a decade.
“It won’t be very different,” the "Fresh Prince" icon told EW. “It’s really about assisting the videos not trying to overpower the videos with your comedy. But I have a different energy than Tom does and I’m very animated and energetic, and some of that will absolutely come through. I’m sure it will be dance-related in some form…. For me to able to come in and replace Tom, who’s my idol in the hosting world, will be a challenge but one that I feel excited to be a part of.”
He continued, "It’s really cool that I have Tom’s blessing in this. All along Tom has said that I’ve been the one that he would love to replace him."
Bergeron spoke to ABC News last year about leaving the show he's hosted for so long.
"Because of that, I've really been savoring every taping we do," he said. "I come back after the holidays and I'll be into my last 10 shows to tape. That's going to be bitter sweet in a sense, but I'm looking forward to passing the pinata stick to someone else."
