Former 'DWTS' Co-Host Samantha Harris to Have Double Mastectomy

April 9, 2014 — -- Former "Dancing with the Stars" co-host and ET correspondent Samantha Harris has revealed she will have a double mastectomy to treat breast cancer.

Harris co-hosted "DWTS" from 2006 to 2010, before Brooke Burke-Charvet replaced her.

Harris, 40, said after seeing three specialists, Harris chose the double mastecomy.

"My daughters are three and six, you know. All they're concerned about is to have mommy active, be able to hold them, hug them, kiss them," Harris said in an interview with 'Entertainment Tonight'. "I want to still do and from what the doctors say, I will still be able to do, but no matter how positive of a diagnosis as I have, it doesn't keep the demons of fear from taking over your mind and your thought process."

She chose a double mastecomy "to take control" and made the choice right for her and her family. She said after making the tough choice, she now feels "so much calmer."

"My dad wasn't able to walk me down the aisle. I will be here to plan my daughter's weddings and they better like the dress I pick," she added.

Harris' other hosting duties have included "The Next Joe Millionaire" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire."
