Ed Sheeran Professor at University of Central Florida and His Many Other Roles
See the different roles the singer has assumed this year.
— -- Ed Sheeran: College professor?
The singer visited the University of Central Florida on Monday after students helped the school win a social media contest to get him on campus.
"God help everyone involved," he joked on Twitter.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that during the campus takeover, Sheeran “taught” a music class, treated students to a private concert and participated in an informal Q&A session. Students asked him who he’d like to collaborate with, and he said Beyonce. They also asked about his relationship with Taylor Swift, with whom Sheeran said he's close. One student even asked him on a date, and he jokingly suggested they go to Chuck E. Cheese.
About 300 tickets were issued to those who shared their votes for UCF on Twitter and Facebook. The contest was sponsored by Chegg, a textbook rental website, and launched back in January. In addition to Sheeran's appearance, UCF's music department received a $10,000 grant.
This isn't the first time the singer has done something out of the ordinary. Here are a few other roles he's played recently, in addition to professor:
Wedding Singer
Kya and Matt Debono, a couple in Australia who had been going through tough times, were surprised when a Sydney radio station surprised them by financing their dream wedding. However, they never could have imagined that their favorite singer, Ed Sheeran, would be on-hand to surprise them by serenading their first dance to his song "Thinking Out Loud." "The shock and then joy on the bride’s face is priceless," read a summary of the radio station's video. "There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd as Ed Sheeran gave a genuine and beautifully flawless acoustic performance." Added the singer on his Instagram page, "Available for weddings, birthdays and bar mitzvah's, contact your local super market for details."
Texting Buddy
Taylor Swift is preparing to launch her world tour in Tokyo, while her good friend, Sheeran, is in the middle of his. However, the two have stayed close via text, as evidenced by Swift's Instagram post from yesterday. "You'd think for multi-platinum lyricis we'd do better [at texting]," he wrote to her.
Hotel Housekeeping
Sheeran once told a story about trashing his L.A. hotel room after the Grammy Awards in 2014. However, he felt so guilty about doing so that he made sure to clean it all up by himself. “I literally de-trashed my room and put it back to normal. If I trash a hotel room, will anyone like me more? You’re not going to have kids going, ‘Oh, that’s really cool and edgy.’ You’re probably going to get a ticked-off maid and that’s about it," he told Parade magazine.
Matchmaker
As it turns out, Courteney Cox and her fiancé Johnny McDaid are in a debt of gratitude to Sheeran, who said he set them up. ""My housemate [Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid] who I've lived with for a year, I introduced him to Courteney Cox. They started dating and [are] crazy about each other," he said in 2013.
Houseguest
In that same interview from 2013, Sheeran opened up about a time that he spent Thanksgiving at Jennifer Aniston's home, and perhaps outstayed his welcome. "Jennifer, I passed out on her - her house is crazy - but there's these big steps that go down to the pool. I had drunk a bit too much and needed a time out, so I walked down and lay on one of the beds outside by the pool," he said. "[I] passed out there!"
