Gwen Stefani Says the True Story of Her Split With Gavin Rossdale Would Leave Us 'in Shock'
The singer says she won't reveal the true story to protect her three sons.
— -- Singer Gwen Stefani won't go into detail about the breakdown of her 13-year marriage to Gavin Rossdale, but she said what happened was absolutely shocking.
"If I could, I would just tell you everything, and you would just be in shock. It’s a really good, juicy story,” Stefani toldThe New York Times.
The singer said she's staying mum to protect her three sons with the rocker.
Stefani, 46, said at the time, she felt like she was "gonna die," and asked herself, "How do I save myself? What am I going to do? How do I not go down like this?"
The answer, she said, was, "I have to make music out of this. That’s what God wants for me."
That led to her new album "What the Truth Feels Like," due March 18. It's her first solo album in ten years, and the Times says it's full of songs about "secrets and infidelity," but also songs about "discovering the spark of new love," thanks to her relationship with Blake Shelton.
The two began dating last November, months after her split with Rossdale, 50. This past July, Shelton, 39, and fellow country star Miranda Lambert divorced after four years of marriage.
Stefani added, “I needed something new to happen. And not just in my career, in my life. Something had to change. I’m not going to say I’m not still picking up the pieces and every day isn’t a challenge. I’m still in shock. But it’s an awesome time.”
Speaking about her relationship with Shelton, who was going through the breakup of his own marriage at the same time, Stefani said, "Never in my wildest, craziest dreams would I ever have seen this coming.”
And as far as her new album goes, Stefani said she's grateful.
"I don’t even understand how I could possibly have had this long a career, or a career at all," she said. "And that anyone cares, and that I’m relevant or anything, it just blows my mind.”
