— -- It appears that thousands of people are suffering from Jon Stewart withdrawal.

A change.org petition calling for the former "Daily Show" host to moderate a 2016 presidential debate has nearly met its goal of 150,000 supporters.

"Over the last 16 years, Jon Stewart has played an influential and iconic role in covering US politics and media," the petition, directed at the Commission on Presidential Debates, stated. "We believe he should continue that tradition as a moderator at one of the 2016 Presidential Debates."

The Commission on Presidential Debates has yet to publicly respond to the petition.

Stewart ended his 16-year run as host of "The Daily Show" Aug. 6.

He'll be back in the spotlight Sunday, when he hosts the WWE event SummerSlam in Brooklyn, New York.
