TV Star's Ex Found Dead After Facebook Suicide Note
TV producer Kevin McGee found hanged after posting a suicide note on Facebook.
LONDON, Oct. 6, 2009 — -- Kevin McGee, the former partner of British comedian and television star Matt Lucas, has been found dead after posting an apparent suicide note on Facebook, according to authorities.
Police in Edinburgh, Scotland, said they broke into McGee's flat around 8 a.m. Monday after being alerted by friends who became concerned when the television producer updated his Facebook status to read: "Kevin McGee thinks that death is much better than life."
Three hours after McGee, 32, posted the message, police found him hanged in his apartment.
"Police were called to an address in Bruntsfield Gardens, Edinburgh, at around 8 a.m. yesterday morning, where a 32-year-old man was found dead," Lothian and Borders police said in a statement. "There are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
Lucas, 35, who is starring in the West End play "Prick Up Your Ears," was reportedly "utterly destroyed" when he learned of McGee's death. He has since pulled out of the show until further notice. His agency, Troika, said it had no comment.
A friend of Lucas' told The Sun newspaper that "Matt was floored when he heard the news. He always loved Kevin, despite their differences and their difficult marriage."
McGee and Lucas met in 2002, before Lucas became famous for his role on the BBC show "Little Britain." The couple married in 2006, in a civil partnership ceremony with a star-studded guest list that included Sir Elton John and Courtney Love.
