"Shower Flight." Rachel Hulin is a photographer and writer based in Providence, R.I., and New York City. "Flying Baby" grew out of her wish to keep her art going amid the demands of rearing her son, Henry, who is 13 months old. When he was 6 months, she said, "We'd lift him up, and he'd squeal with delight. I thought, What if I photographed him and removed the grown-up?"

"Hall Flight." "The images made sense to me as a new parent," Hulin said. "I often didn't understand what he was doing, so the images represent his little world, which I was trying to figure out."

"Brick House Flight." Creating the images is "not that magical," said Hulin. "There's no green screen or wires, just a little Photoshopping to remove the hands holding the baby."

"Flying Outside." Hulin said that, since her series has been published online, "I've seen other people flying their babies!" Maybe she could create an iPad app so people can easily create similar images of their babies, she joked.

"The New Human Flies." Hulin still flies Henry, especially on trips with her husband – they're always on the lookout for spaces and backgrounds that are attractive and believable.

"Dune Flight." "I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to [take flying pictures of Henry]," Hulin said. "He's not as serene. And he weighs 25 pounds."
