— -- Election season ramps up and without missing a beat the parodies kick into full gear.

Rob Lowe’s lighthearted take on Donald Trump might be one of the best we’ve seen yet. Lowe stopped by the set of ABC’s "Popcorn with Peter Travers" to promote his new Fox comedy series "The Grinder," where he plays the role of a former TV lawyer who believes he’s qualified to join his family’s real-life law firm.

And when the topic of politics came up, particularly Donald Trump, Lowe, 51, told Peter Travers he’s a supporter of anyone who supports him.

“I like anybody who likes me. Vladimir Putin likes me, great. Trump likes me, great. I like them,” joked Lowe.

The conversation apparently struck a note with Lowe, causing him to offer up his impression of the presidential candidate.

“Here’s my impersonation of Donald Trump,” Lowe said while gesturing with his hands. “If you just do that with your hands, it’s like a platypus. While we’re on it, another Trump thing which I love is that he says three nice things about you and then as he’s just about to close up, he takes a shot. So he’ll be like George Washington, great man, loved that he was dedicated, by the way, he was short. It’s always like, by the way, it makes me laugh."
