— -- "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ended it's illustrious run 12 years ago this past Wednesday.

The show's star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, took to Instagram to remember the final show on May 20, 2003.

"12 years ago, I said goodbye to a friend. It was an incredible journey that, I am so incredibly proud of," she wrote next to a collage of classic pics.

She added, "Thank you all for joining me, and continuing to tell her story #BuffyTheVampireSlayer #BTVS."

"Buffy" ran from 1997 to 2003 and not only started Gellar's career, it launched Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz and Eliza Dushku into cult stardom, who are all working actors still today.
