Anthrax — The Band — Helps Out

(ABCNEWS.com) — The rock group Anthrax will help remind its fans of what they were originally known for, by performing at a fund-raiser for New York City firefighters. The music world has been scrambling to throw together fund-raisers since Sept. 11, and the metal community wants to show they have some compassion beneath their leather clothes and tough attitudes. Anthrax, which has decided to keep their now-infamous name, will perform with Skid Row's Sebastian Bach and Ace Frehley & Friends at the event billed as the New York Steel concert, hosted by Mets' catcher Mike Piazza. Twisted Sister is also on the bill. Their big hit "We're Not Gonna Take It" could easily take on new meaning in these troubling times. The amped up guitars at the metal fest could also prove the perfect stress breaker for jittery New Yorkers in need of a good time. The concert is set for Nov. 28 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, a small venue that will host a similar fund-raiser organized by the Beastie Boys on Oct. 28. Anthrax posted a message on their official Web site acknowledging it is "stressful" to be associated with the recent incidents involving the disease they are named after. The group has been together since 1982, and says they decided to keep their name because they are hopeful there will be no more "negative events."
