Shannen Doherty Arrested
L O S A N G E L E S, Dec. 28 -- Actress Shannen Doherty,star of the WB network television hit Charmed, was arrestedon suspicion of drunken driving today after officers sawher black pickup truck weaving on California freeway, policesaid.
The 29-year-old Doherty, who stars with Alyssa Milano andHolly Marie Combs on Charmed, was stopped by officers atabout 3 a.m. PT (6 a.m. ET) while driving inThousand Oaks, north of Los Angeles, California Highway Patrolspokesman Mike Moriarty said.
A spokesman for the Memphis, Tenn.-born Doherty, whofirst shot to fame on the hit TV series Beverly Hills 90210,could not be reached for comment.
Moriarty said officers had observed Doherty’s truck weavingacross lanes of the Ventura Freeway.
Doherty was given a field sobriety test at the scene,Moriarty said, and then taken to jail for a blood test todetermine her level of intoxication before she was releasedseveral hours later and ordered to be in court on Jan. 26.
He said the results of Doherty’s blood-alcohol content testwere not immediately available.
The arrest was not Doherty’s first brush with the law. In1997, a Beverly Hills judge ordered her to attendanger-management counseling after she smashed a beer bottle ona car window during an argument.
Doherty, Combs and Milano star on Charmed as theHalliwell sisters of San Francisco, who use witchcraft tovanquish evil.
