♪ ooh-la-la ♪ Oh, yeah, it's time to improve this! Spring is just around the corner. We hope. But that doesn't mean it's too late to give up on your new year's resolution to renovate so this morning we're checking out some budget-friendly tips to transform any bathroom from lackluster to luxury in one weekend. Candy whiting of Texas loves her home but there is one room she can't quite get a handle on. Oh, it's just dog ugly. I don't know what else to say. So look at this bathroom. Oh, my goodness. These walls are hideous. These cabinets -- I just don't even know where to start. Reporter: Fortunately a handsome cowboy is here to save the day. Mean Shane Golan, a superstar Texas contractor and owner of venetian homes. All right. So, candy, here's what I want to do. We'll paint the cabinets. We'll change the hardware. We're going to get you some plumbing fixtures that don't come off in your hand then we'll definitely do something about the floor and definitely do something about these walls. Most of this stuff are things can you do on your own on the weekend. A lot of stuff at Lowe's. Reporter: First up what to do about those downtrodden cabinets in what we want to do and a lot have a misconception, you sand it before you paint it. For optimal results what you want to do, get a coat of paint on here and come in and sand it so we come in here and take this and knot down the high points in this wood and we'll get rid of the small little grooves in the wood so want to prime it, sand it and then we'll come back in with a finish coat. So one of the easiest most inexpensive ways to dress up any room is going to be replace the cabinet hardware. Now, you can find these at Lowe's or any of your local stores and it's a really inexpensive way to set these cabinets off. You won't believe how little paint can transform a milding and a room. What we're measuring for now a piece of trim and add that to the wall and give you optical illusion your baseboards are taller than they are. All we have to do is chop it with a saw, put it up and then paint from there down. Never be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to light. A lot of times people don't think about hanging dining room fixtures or nook fixtures in a bathroom. This is a perfect example.
