Good morning to you, steve. Reporter: Good morning, elizabeth. Police moved quickly. They gave it just a little more than three short hours and then busted moo this home to free those firefighters. They were worried the gunman was growing more age more unstable on. It started with a call for help. The home owner telling authorities he was having heart trouble. Five georgia firefighters trained as paramedics raced to the home and came face to face with a gunman threatening their lives. Multiple handguns, multhle rifles. Reporter: The firefighters say he threatened to shoot unless he helped get his power, cell phone and cable television turned back on. Records show it was foreclosed on last fall. Apparently going through financial issues. Reporter: As dozens swarmed the neighborhood, one of the firefighters escaped and neighbors watching through their windows and calling out on cell phones were terrified. I would imagine we're safer in our house than out of our house. Reporter: Then all of a sudden. The sound of concussion grenades. The s.W.A.T. Team busting in trading gunfire. One officer was shot in the hand. The gunman was killed. And the four firefighters walked out with minor injuries from the explosion. You got to a point where we believed their lives were in immediate danger and our s.W.A.T. Team made the decision to go in and neutralize the situation. Reporter: They had good reason. In december of last yearwo firefighters in webster, new york, were killed by a gunman who set a fire and then shot at the firefighters who came to put it out. Police say they tried negotiating with the man, even offering him food, but say he wouldn't listen to reason.
