The first couple, mixing business with pleasure. The president was in New York City for a speech. And he turned it into date night. Sara Haines followed them around town. Like any great night out in the big apple, it had to include two things that New York City does best. Fabulous food and the great white way. Big city lights. Five-star dining. A night on Broadway. Seemed like the perfect night away from the office. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, did just that. Hello, New York. I love you back. Reporter: The first couple visiting for Al Sharpton's national action network convention, where Obama talked about Americans' right to vote. And at one point, reminiscing about the times he was questioned about his own birth certificate. And just to be clear, I know where my birth certificate is. But a lot of people don't. You remember that? That was crazy. Reporter: After the conference, Obama knew he couldn't come to New York without having some extra fun. And voila. Friday night became date night. What was on the menu for the night? The Obamas started at a trendy Italian restaurant, where their menu included, spaghetti and Pollo. Here they met up with friends, including Ahmad Rashad. Up next, Broadway. I got to change my life. Reporter: The couple enjoyed an all-access performance of "A raisin in the sun." During intermission, they got to meet and greet the cast. After the show, Denzel Washington sent a special message, by tipping his hat to the president. In true New York City fashion, it was a fun night out, which didn't get the couple home until around 1:00 A.M. And I'd like to apologize now for my pronunciation. I struggled a bit with that. With the menu items? The menu items. Hmm. Yeah. Yes. The way you say it. I'll order that.
