Answer: Social anxiety disorder, or social phobia, is characterized by excessive fear or worry related to a social situation or a performance situation. A person who has social phobia tends to be very concerned about being embarrassed or humiliated in the setting of a social activity or a performance.This worry or fear has to interfere with functioning, so social occupational or relationship functioning, in order to be characterized as a social anxiety disorder.
