Do Children Take The Same Medications For Anxiety Disorders That Adults Take?

Question: Do children take the same medications for anxiety disorders that adults take?

Jennifer Hartstein, PsyD., St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital

Answer: Children are often prescribed the same medications as adults. They tend to be prescribed medications in a way that's called off-label, in that no set dosages are clearly understood for children. So doctors have come up with what the therapeutic dosages seem to be, and the same medications will be used for children and adolescents as is adults.
