Answer: Asthma medicines can be categorized in a couple of different ways. The way that was used previously was to designate them as either anti-inflammatory or bronchodilator. That use has fallen out of fashion somewhat because now there are so many drugs that combine both activities, both anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator, and therefore the usual characterization of asthma medicine is into controller medicine and reliever medicine.
