— -- I'm Dr. Edith Perez of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. My clinical and research interests relate to breast cancer -- specifically the development of breast cancer as well as optimal ways to manage patients diagnosed with this disease.

We have had an opportunity of developing and conducting clinical trials with results that have already translated into changes of standards of care for patient management here in the United States but also in other parts of the world.

The tumors that we have been targeting the most are those that are what we call HER2 positive. So we have studied medicines that attack HER2 with results leading to improvements in the likelihood of the patient surviving after diagnosis of breast cancer. In the future, we will continue developing new clinical trials attacking this HER2 protein and the HER2 gene that will further optimize patient care.
