'Cool Baby' Is Doll and Drink Cooler in One
A straw for drinking comes out the top of the baby's head.
— -- The concept is simple, if totally bizarre.
Cool Baby is a baby doll that also acts as an insulated cooler. A straw -- for drinking -- comes out the top of the baby's head and the baby is meant to be carried in a front-facing baby carrier.
As the Kickstater campaign for Cool Baby reads: "Drinking in public is now adorable."
Created by Simon Philion of Brooklyn, New York, the former comedian-turned-copywriter's Kickstarter campaign has raised close to $18,000, but needs $70,000 to make Cool Baby a reality. The campaign closes on Feb. 28.
"Looks like Kickstarter isn't going to work for funding, but mark my words: I will find a way for The Cool Baby to live," said Philion. "If there's an angel investor out there who wants to fund this thing, come find me or I'll come find you."
He'll point interested parties towards his YouTube page once the Kickstarter campaign closes.
Philion said he chose a baby to house his beverage cooler because "babies are popularly, and absurdly, paraded around in baby harnesses, inches from the mouth. I could have just front-loaded an expressionless water bottle of some kind but, in my mind, that would have been pointless."
The Kickstarter description reads: "Dress it up to look like you, like someone else, like a part of a costume, like a fan of your team. ... Use it to get a seat on the subway, strike up a conversation, or mock a biological baby. WHATEVER YOU DO WITH IT, The Cool Baby is a fun, expressive, hands-free beverage insulator for a wide variety of occasions."
The drink container (inserted through the baby doll's rear) holds 36 ounces of liquid.
So what do people think of the Cool Baby prototype?
"Folks always do a double-take before either getting angry and mumbling something obscene, or laughing really hard and asking me what this thing is and how it works," Philion said. "Thankfully, the latter outnumber the former."
