— -- The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Patrick Sharp and defenseman Stephen Johns to the Dallas Stars for defenseman Trevor Daley and forward Ryan Garbutt on Friday.

Sharp, 33, had been with the Blackhawks since 2005, winning three Stanley Cups. He had 239 goals and 272 assists in 679 games for the Chicago. This past season, he had 16 goals and 27 assists in 68 games last season.

Overall, he recorded 80 points (42 goals, 38 assists) in 128 playoff games with the Blackhawks.

"On behalf of the entire Blackhawks organization, I'd like to thank Patrick for all that he helped our franchise accomplish during his time in Chicago, especially serving an integral role in bringing us three Stanley Cup championships," Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said in a statement. "He was one of our leaders on the ice, most notably as an alternate captain for several seasons, as well as off the ice with his countless contributions and volunteer work with team partners, sponsors and Blackhawks fans everywhere. He will forever be a Blackhawk and we wish him and his family nothing but the best in Dallas and beyond."

Dallas is retaining 50 percent of Garbutt's $1.8 million salary in the deal, which will help clear some cap space for the Blackhawks. The Stars will take the full cap hit on both Hawks players, including Sharp's $5.9 million salary.

Johns, 23, was considered one of the Blackhawks' top defenseman prospects. He had four goals and 17 assists in 51 games for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL last season. He signed with the Blackhawks prior to the 2014-15 season after spending four years at Notre Dame. He was drafted in the second round in 2010.

Daley, 31, had 16 goals and 22 assists in 68 games for the Stars last season. He has played his entire 11-year career with Dallas, recording 67 goals and 164 assists in 756 games.

Garbutt, 29, had eight goals and 17 assists in 67 games for the Stars last season. He had 30 goals and 40 assists over 198 career game with the team.
